Epilogue

We are now merging our coursework for Film Studies and Media Studies together to make things easier. Our Film Studies coursework is making a five minute film and so we will record it and my colleague will edit it and then he shall edit it down to a one and a half minute teaser trailer for Media Studies. This means that a longer film script is needed, so we came up with a basic idea for an introduction to the movie:

Epilogue

Fade in to a close up of a smoking pipe being used on a sideways view. Focus the camera more to make image sharper.

Hermlock V/O : Hello, I am Hermlock Sholmes a detective investigator based in London, England. My partner Dr. Jotson and I...

Images of Jotson and other images in sync with what Hermlock is saying.

Hermlock V/O : We work with the metropolitan police to solve crimes, may it be murder, missing people's cases or even rescuing cats from trees. Most cases are the same these days. The police find something out and then don't know where to go. That's when they come to us.  We look into the overlooked, solve the case and arrest any people in question within a few days. But then there are certain cases that are, lets just say a bit more... peculiar, than others.

Changes

Due to the high costs of costumes and props, we are going to change our idea from doing an old Victorian version of Sherlock Holmes to a modern version.  This is so that we can use our own clothes and find costumes quicker, easier and cheaper than searching for replicas. Due to this we may have to change certain parts of the idea, such as characters and filming/photography locations for our magazine front cover and poster.

Filming locations

We currently have two locations in which we wish to film our trailer.  As one of the locations is outside in a public, we have to recieve permission from the local council.  The other is inside the church itself, so we will also need to talk to members of the church.

Costumes

On our trip to town, we visited one shop, Castle Costumes.  We looked at buying and hiring costumes, make-up and props and have made a list of items and costs;
Sherlock Holmes (Hire) - £15.00
John Watson (Hire) - £15.00
Maid - £15.00
Villain monk - £13.00
Smoking pipe and magnifying glass - £7.00
Fake blood - £3.50
John Watson beard/moustache - £1.99

This comes to a total cost of £70.49, which works out to be around £23.50 per member of the group.

Costumes

Me and the other members of the group are about to head into town to look around for costumes. We have found a few potential items online but are going to try and get invloved with local businesses.  In case things don't go as planned, here are some of the items that we found.

Outline of the stories

How I Met Your Mother – This is a series about a father (Ted Mosby) who is telling his two children about the memories he had (with his friends Barney, Robin, Lily and Marshall) leading to how he met their mother.  After six series, he is still going through years of memories. I particularly like this TV series because of the characters.  The characters in the show are always funny

Too Cool To kickass – Two young children (George and Thomas) at school had designed their own superhero costumes (as Captain Obvious and Sidekick) for a trip to Comic-Con.  But little do they realise that they are about to become real life superheroes as they are stuck in a situation with super villains (Captain Oblivious and The Narrator) who are trying to take over the world. I particularly like this film for two reasons; the storyline/characters make the film funny and because I am in it.  This is a production with my FilmClub group.
Harry Potter – A young wizard named Harry Potter is famous in the world of magic for one reason.  Throughout his years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and wizardry, he makes friends with students (Ron, Hermoine) and teachers (Hagrid) learns aabout spells and each year faces a challenge from the darkest wizard in history (Voldemort) who is trying to kill him.  I particularly like this film becuase I have grown up with this being the biggest film franchise ever.  Since a child I have watched theses films, have been to the cinema to see every one of them and have always been a huge fan.  It has a mix of genres, with action, drama, romance and comedy to make it an all round perfect film.

My favourite Film and TV

Here is a list of some of my favourite films and TV programmes with good storylines:

How I Met Your Mother
Big Bang Theory
Too Cool To Kickass
Too Cool To Kickass 2
PS I Love You
Taken
The Great Gatsby
Harry Potter

Poster title

This shows me downloading a font that we think that we may be using for our poster in our film package.  We chose this font becuase it looks like the original font without actually being the original font.

My Team

I shall be working on this project with two other students whose blogs can be found at; www.ashleyhilla2media.blogspot.co.uk/ and www.jacobburmana2media.blogspot.co.uk. We have come up with the idea of making a parody of the modern Sherlock Holmes films that star Robert Downey Jr. We will look at the trailers for the two films in the franchise as well as the animated parody of 'Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows' by how it should have ended.

Sherlock Holmes

These posters are some of the possible designs that we will base ours around.  We are looking to do a teaser trailer/poster that is similar to the Sherlock Holmes film and TV series.  This poster gives us a few details about the film, such as a major actor, a character name, a caption and a release day to try and excite people about the release.
Been to Warner Bros Studio's Making of Harry Potter again this weekend.  Bought this, 10 original limited edition 35mm clips from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

World War Z

The World's End

The Purge

This is the trailer for 'The Purge', a physcological thriller being released in cinemas on May 31st.  This trailer starts of quiet, making the viewer uncertain about what genre the film may be.  It then starts to become louder with characters speaking and aggressive music to hint towards what the film is going to be.  There are then screen jumps and cuts with shots showing aggression and violence to confirm what genre this film is.
The trailer also tells us the release date of the fil mand that it is from the creators of the 'Paranormal Activity' films to attract the audience of that film as well as new viewers.
